In celebration of the wearin’ of the green this month, we present Celtic Ornate 24pt. This 19th century revival is from the seemingly boundless Charlie Broad Matrix Collection. See the product listing for some notes and speculation on the origin of this face.

But we spent the major part of February casting the fourth and final size, 36 point, of Bookman Old Style and Italic. Italic faces are difficult and challenging both to produce and to pack, because of the need for kerning to accomplish a closer setwise fit. All of us on the crew are relieved to see this project come to completion.

Not to neglect the decorative side, our newest family member in that category is the neat little Border No. 1569 in 12 point.

Recast and back in stock: Collection No. 26, the charming pictorial marsh piece border. (MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan, 1887, via Charlie Broad.) In the first two months of this year we produced 2,710 pounds of type. Two more 20-foot cargo containers have been brought onto the property of our offsite warehouse to accommodate the increasing quantity of sale stock on the shelf, as well as the typographical goodies hauled in on our continuing treasure hunts.

Free Shipping on Pi Day! The Greek letter Pi represents a mathematical constant, but is also a traditional letterpress term for metal type in quantity that is accidentally dropped, spilled, or otherwise hopelessly mixed up.
